Amsterdam: Mosque hosts police recruitment drive

Last week the police sent out a newsletter about the police to the people living in the Amsterdam-Amstelland area.  The police intends to attract more people to the police and to increase the diversity within the corps.

Head commissioner Bernard Welten handed out the first copies to the young people and to the imam of the Al-Oumma mosque in the Slotervaart district.  Welten also had a round-table talk about the police work and the prejudices against it, organized by the Union of Moroccan Mosques in Amsterdam and environs.

The VVD fraction in the city council and the PVV fraction in parliament think it's unacceptable to have such recruitment drives in mosques, and that it conflicts with the separation of Church and State.  According to the PVV this is discrimination of ethnic Dutch and Islamization of the police.

the VDD wants to know from mayor Job Cohen what other meeting there were in recent years in religious buildings (mosques, churches and synagogues) and how much was it subsidized by the municipality.
