Rotterdam: First Muslim hospital

The first Muslim hospital in the Netherlands might be built in Rotterdam within two years. The plan was presented by Paul Surkenboom, the entrepreneur behind it.

The customs and norms of the Islamic culture will be followed in the hospital. For example, the food will be halal, there will be separate departments for men and women and each sex will be given service by doctors and nurses of the same sex.

The hospital will offer the same services as every general hospital, and people will only have to turn to other hospitals for very specialized services. The hospital is expected to employ about 45 specialists and 274 nurses and paramedics, all of which will comply with Dutch requirements.

The employees will not need to be Muslim, although they would have to naturally respects the belief and its customs.

The primary language will be Dutch but the hospital will employ Arabic speaking personnel who could function as translators.
